We have been asked by a number of businesses to clarify the Social Media Apprenticeship.
There is obviously a growing requirement for businesses to engage with and manage social media. It is an excellent marketing
channel, allows businesses to easily engage with current and potential clients and also get feedback. Brand reputation and management is also critical so getting social media right is now a key business function. There are though still too many companies managing their social media as and when they can. When is it? over the cheese sandwich at lunch or passed onto a poor member of staff that does it when they can remember to.
The Social Media Apprenticeship is a superb way of meeting this business need. Firstly, who better to develop the companies social media than the people (age group) that actually use it, although it appears that the age demographic of Facebook users is getting older. Secondly, an apprentice is a member of staff that will grow with your business and by managing social media will in turn grow your business.
So what is the apprenticeship? Effectively, the apprentice will work towards a Level 3 Diploma in Social Media for Business. This is a City and Guilds qualification to it is accredited and nationally recognised. The apprentice, where necessary, will study functional skills and 2 modules covering Employer Rights & Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. The units that are covered in this qualification are:
- Principles of Social Media within a Business
- Principles of keywords and optimisation
- Social Networking Management for Business
- Using collaborative technologies
- Content Management System website creation
- Creating and optimising content for the web
- Principles of Social Media advertising and promotion
The apprenticeship takes a minimum of 12 months. In that time the apprentice needs to be a full time employee working at least 30 hours per week and have a Contract of Employment. The minimum wage for an apprentice is £2.68 per hour.
Employers are also currently eligible to receive a £1500 AGE Grant to employ an apprentice.
The apprentice learns on the job – doing social media. We provide them with eLearning, an online portfolio where they can gather evidence demonstrating their competence, assessor visits and support as well as 1 to 1 coaching.
