A Level Results are in – Apprenticeship or University?
Well, we are that time of year again when A level results are released and thoughts of what to do next are high on the agenda. For many the options are taking a place at university or embarking on an apprenticeship. Naturally, at Yorkshire Apprentice we are keen to support anyone that is thinking about an apprenticeship as we know how valuable they are in getting on to the career ladder of choice.
This year is even better for apprenticeship options that last. The government has committed to funding 3 million apprenticeships by 2020 and employers are also seeing the value of taking on an apprentice and are offering some amazing vacancies.
We have a vast amount of fabulous jobs that apprentices are able to choose from. We are running vacancies though the Harrogate and North Yorkshire region and have had huge demand for apprentices to join businesses working in social media, web design, business administration, customer service and retail.
Benefits of an apprenticeship
There are huge benefits in becoming an apprentice. Most importantly you get to earn while you learn. As an employee of a business you will be paid an apprenticeship salary which ranges from about £2.83 to £5.00 per hour. As a Yorkshire Apprentice you will be supported by us in working towards the relevant qualifications. This is done in a number of ways including on the job training – where you learn from the business and its employees and off the job training which is where we deliver eLearning, online webinars, support with portfolio building through observations and evidence collection.
Why not university?
On A level results day it is always worth reminding people that university is not the only option. For many, the prospect of spending 3 or 4 years at university racking up huge amounts of debts is not that appealing. There has also been a lot of news recently that graduates are no longer guaranteed better jobs and actually many of the courses offered by universities just do not hold any real credibility with employers.
For some people university is an incredibly disappointing experience as it leaves them often with large student loans to pay back and a qualification that is not always going to get them their dream job.
Apprenticeships are a great way to earn while you learn. We work with amazing employers offering fantastic positions to school leavers looking to get into their career of choice.
We offer apprenticeships in Information Technology, Social Media, Business and Customer Service.
